Hide-There is no prerequisite to study this programme. It is recommended that applicants have a Leaving Certificate or equivalent due to the Statistics covered in the course syllabus. Applicants must also be in a position to carry out a Six Sigma green belt project with an employer.
Question: What if I am not currently in employment and cannot complete a Six Sigma project with an employer?
We strongly encourage all students where possible to complete a live Six Sigma project in a workplace environment. This allows you to put the tools into practice. Past students have located employers who were willing to let them undertake their Six Sigma project. If you are not in a position to complete a Six Sigma project with an employer, then an alternative project will be provided. This can take one of the following two forms:
Research based project related to Lean Six Sigma. This will involve generating a research question, reviewing the literature on Six Sigma using the IT Sligo college databases and writing a 3000 word research report.
Six Sigma simulation based project. This will be a computer based simulation of a six sigma project. This is planned to be available from September, 2014.
On successful completion of the project, then you will meet the requirements of the Certificate in Lean Sigma Quality from IT Sligo. Note that the external Green Belt award from Quality America requires you to undertake a live Six Sigma project which shows a financial saving. If you do not complete a ‘live’ six sigma project, then Quality America will still award you a Six Sigma Green Belt certificate which will contain the words; “without project”.
As the Project module will not start until the second Semester of the course, you will have the opportunity to discuss this in more detail with your lecturer during Semester 1.
