Entrants will be expected to have no less than an upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent international qualification) in education or a cognate discipline. If students do not have this qualification they must have demonstrated high ability by some other means (e.g., through publications, achievement in a postgraduate diploma or higher degree and/or professional experience). |

The School of Education is highly active in educational research and development, with several students enrolled in doctoral and masters degrees by research. The School has several research projects funded nationally and internationally, addressing key contemporary concerns and issues in education. The School's areas of research expertise include: adapted and special educational needs; bullying in schools; access, diversity and civic engagement in second and third-level education; gender issues in education; science education and public engagement in science; assessment policy and practice; educational technology (learning sciences); an multilingual education and literacy.
The salient characteristics of current research in the School of Education are its multi-disciplinary nature, links to other units within the University&emdashincluding the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), Environmental Change Institute (ECI) and the Community Knowledge Initiative (CKI)and a commitment to supporting practitioner research through school and community links.
