Hide-About Polymer Processing
Use of polymers for a variety of engineering, medical-device, pharmaceutical, and general consumer applications continues to grow. The Polymer Processing Degree programme focuses on the materials, processes, and tooling used in relation to polymers. Candidates completing the B Eng in Polymer Processing meet the requirements of the internationally-recognised Six Sigma Green Belt Award. Candidates can attain this award in addition to their degree by passing an external Green Belt exam.
About this Programme
This programme was jointly developed by the Institute of Technology, Sligo, Athlone Institute of Technology, and First Polymer Training SkillNet.
In this programme the participants learn the characteristics of various polymers, the common polymer processes (including injection moulding, blow moulding, and extrusion), and factors in the design of tooling for these processes. The course also presents modules that are relevant to automated production (such as CIM and Automation Technology and Energy & Utilities Management) and management modules relating to Six Sigma methodology.
