A student may be asked to undertake the GMAT or GRE at the Director's discretion.

If this document is not in English you should arrange to have it translated.

Hide-The MSc in Business Analytics is designed to give participants knowledge of and experience with current quantitative analysis techniques. We’ll teach you how to implement these quantitative techniques in a business problem-solving and project management environment.

This programme is suitable for graduates from technical disciplines such as, engineering, computer science and mathematics with a talent for and interest in finding mathematical or computer solutions to business problems. It is also suitable for business graduates who have studied Management Information Systems (MIS) subjects. The student profile also includes people with practical experience, who often use the programme to redirect their career.

The mix of full and part-time students from different backgrounds, working together on projects, makes the interaction between students an important and worthwhile part of the learning experience.

The two-year part-time option is taught twice-weekly. For students entering in September 2017, it will run during the daytime (this is a change from previous years).

What will I learn?
This technically-oriented course hones quantitative and computer techniques in its students to assist them in exploring management issues and supporting decision-making within a business context.

1. Exposure to and practice of the latest cutting-edge quantitative analysis techniques used within this specific branch of applied mathematics

2. Development of the necessary computer software skills and an understanding of the theory and practice of applied information systems, as required in consultancy and business

3. The ability to develop new software solutions and implement mathematical and quantitative techniques in order to make effective business decisions and boost performance

Summer Term
Option Modules

Students follow one of two pathways (depending on their preference and their academic performance on previous modules, with final decision made by faculty):
• Dissertation (a large 25-credit analytics project with a significant academic contribution), OR
• Practicum (a large 15-credit analytics project with a more practical contribution) AND a 10-credit taught module such as Natural Computing & Applications.

The module Analytics Research & Implementation comprises a number of sessions held over semesters 1 and 2, with associated assessment items:

Semester 1:
• Introductory Seminar on Modelling – normally a 2 hour seminar taking place during an evening on week 1.
• Java Programming Refresher Course – two full day course normally taking place on the first and second Friday of term. These classes are provided to aid people who may not already have the Java skills so the classes can be considered optional. These classes also briefly cover program testing, RDBs and SQL.
• A Java programming exam is part of the assessment for the Analytics Research & Implementation module. This is compulsory for all students and is scheduled later in the first semester.

Semester 2:
• A series of seminars on developing and structuring an MScBA dissertation, the nature of research, carrying out research and writing up the dissertation.
• This section of the module is assessed by (a) a literature review assignment and (b) a project proposal presentation.
