The work of a make-up artist
They prepare the look and style of make-up and hair for people who present or perform in front of cameras or live audiences. It can be a natural healthy look or special effects make-up for a specific reason. Generally make-up artists work along with costume designers, camera and lighting crews and production designers.
Learn the make-up business with our make-up artistry course
If you are creative, love experimenting with make-up and you want to develop your skills as a general or leisure interest, then this course is for you. You will gain an insight into the professional world of make-up, the job opportunities available and what you need to get you on the right career path.
Initially the course will provide you with an important background to the other more practical parts of the course, setting the scene in which the make-up industry operates in. You will be able to demonstrate awareness of the significance of health and safety when preparing for make-up treatments.
You will become familiar with the different types of make-up products, materials and equipment required for basic make-up treatments and be capable of preparing yourself and models for various make-up treatments. You will learn how to decide on setting up your work area and how to practise and maintain professional standards.
You will recognise the factors that affect make-up design and application, become familiar the types and techniques of applying make-up for day wear and evening wear. Creating make-up design ideas you will be able to realise make-up designs on yourself.
Once you have learned how to analyse your own face and have practised how to create different looks you'll feel more confident about applying make-up on someone else. You will be able to identify the requirements for treating special make-up effects on models and to create suitable design ideas for weddings, catwalks etc. Ensuring safe and effective skin care at all times you will be able to interpret all make-up designs and briefs.
How distance learning works
A Personal Make-up Artist Tutor
Once you have enrolled as a student with us, a personal tutor will be assigned to work with you throughout your studies and provide expert guidance and tuition. You will be in a 'class of one', with your tutor, an experienced and qualified specialist in Make-up Artist distance education.
