Hide-Our honours Humanities degree provides students with an immensely satisfying and flexible undergraduate degree and a platform from which they can access a wide range of career opportunities and further study. A significant number of our graduates go on to take a postgraduate Masters in Education and become teachers in two subject combinations of English, Religious Education, and History.
The core Humanities subjects are English, History, Philosophy and Theology and at Stage 1 students take an introductory module in each of these disciplines. Along with the four core subjects, students can also choose from a variety of other modules. From Stage 2 onwards students are free to choose as they wish from a very wide menu of modules (see details below).
Students particularly value the choice embedded in the Humanities programme and the way they can tailor the degree to their own interests and requirements. Modules in Philosophy, Psychology, Media and Drama open up different pathways and diverse career prospects.
The B.A. (Honours) in Humanities programme is recognised by The Teaching Council of Ireland for the purpose of teaching two subject combinations in Religion, English and History at second level.
Note: In order to become a qualified, full-time secondary school teacher, one must acquire the Professional Masters in Education (PME) upon completion of the B.A. (Hons) in Humanities.
