Hide-Back To Education Initiative (BTEI)
The BTEI provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. It aims to give participants an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Programmes are offered in partnership with a number of agencies throughout the country on a flexible part-time basis. Classes are offered throughout the year in the morning, afternoons, evenings or weekends. Courses lead to a range of accreditation at levels 1-6 on the NFQ.

| Entry Requirements |
Leaving Certificate / Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI/ FETAC Level 4. Mature students with relevant life or work experience. All candidates will be interviewed individually. Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to take an assessment in English to establish the most suitable level of study for them.
Work Experience is a compulsory part of the course. Garda Vetting is required and will be organised through the college.

To prepare learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to work in the Health Care Support Area in services such as Nursing homes, Hospitals, and Day Care Centres
Course Content:
Mandatory components
•Care Skills (5N2770)
•Care support (5N0758)
•Safety and Health at work (5N1794)
•Communications (5N0690)
•Work Experience (5N2356)
Elective components
Two components from the following list will be selected by the college subject to availability
•Infection Prevention & Control (5N3734)
•Nursing Theory & Practice (5N4325)
•Anatomy & Physiology (5N0749)
•Care of the Older Person (5N2706)
•Word Processing (5N1358)
•Social Studies (5N1370)
Learners will also complete Moving and Handling and First Aid (CPR) Training.
Course duration:
Part-time: 2 years (2 half days per week, 4 components each year)*
*We aim for all classes to take place between the hours of 9.10 am and 2.10 each day. Applicants must be aware that sometimes it is necessary to schedule classes outside of these times.
Certification:
QQI Level 5 Major Award in Health Care Support. Certificate in Patient Handling. Certificate in First Aid.
Prospects:
Successful completion of the course will enable learners to seek employment in the community and health services area or take up further study at Third Level through the Higher Education Links Scheme.
Students who successfully completed this course have gained full-time and part-time positions in a variety of care settings including Hospitals, Public and Private Nursing homes and as home helps or home carers.
