The course is a combination of both practical skills and theoretical knowledge about key aspects of the sport and leisure industry including organisation, management, supervision and instruction and/or coaching. During the course learners acquire knowledge and competence in a range of sports fitness and exercise activities. |

At the end of the year successful candidates receive a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Sport and Recreation (5M5146).
The qualification also includes a number of awards from various Sports Governing Bodies (Volleyball Ireland, FAI, Basketball Ireland). |

Mature students are very welcome on all courses in O'Fiaich Institute of further Education and the number of mature students is rising steadily. Some mature students are eligible for VTOS scheme (Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme). |

Entry Requirements
This course is aimed at students who have completed the Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, Leaving Certificate Vocational and mature students. An interest in sport and health-related fitness is essential. Final selection will be by interview. Applicants will be asked to produce a record of sporting achievements, including references, at this interview. |

Career Opportunities & Progression Routes
Graduates may progress to further education in Sports Development, Community Sports Leadership, Fitness Instruction or Coaching and specialise in one or a number of sports. Students who successfully complete the course may commence employment in Sports Clubs, Leisure Centres, Health and Fitness Centres, Swimming Pools, Community Organisations, Summer Camps or other related areas. |
