Entry Requirements The minimum requirement for entry is a primary BSc honours degree in which mathematics formed a substantial component. For international students whose first language is not English, an English language exam certificate showing IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) is required.
Comment The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is a strong research community of academics and postgraduate researchers working in research groups specialising in algebra and number theory, geometric analysis, mathematics education and statistics.
Course Content This is a conversion course for students with a BSc degree who want to significantly deepen their knowledge of statistics. Graduates of the course are deemed to have reached the equivalent standard of an honours degree in statistics.
Subjects Taught Course Structure
Modules include data analysis, research projects, linear models, categorical data analysis and statistical inference.
Careers or Further Progression Careers
The course is suitable for those wishing to take up employment as a statistician in areas such as the civil service, the pharmaceutical sector, banking and finance, insurance, market research, environmental monitoring, industrial quality control, statistical programming and data management.
