Three years without placement/Four years including placement year.
Attendance: This is a full time course where you will normally complete three modules per semester, with class contact time approximately three hours per week per module. You will be expected to undertake independent study to supplement that contact of around 10 hours per week per module. You will have 9-10 class contact hours per week on the Magee campus.

Alternative qualifications for undergraduate programmes
Ulster University will consider the following alternative qualifications for entry to an undergraduate degree or honours degree course:
◦two A levels (grades A-E) and three passes at GCSE (grades A-C/4-9) or an Intermediate GNVQ or two Double Award Vocational GCSEs
◦BTEC National qualifications awarded by the Edexcel Foundation
◦Cambridge International Pre-U Diploma
◦Canbridge Technicals
◦OCR National qualifications
◦Highers or Advanced Highers of the Scottish Qualifications Authority
◦European, International or Welsh Baccalaureate
◦Irish Leaving Certificate at higher level with passes in four approved subjects at grade D/H6
◦satisfactory completion of an approved Access programme
◦any foundation degree awarded by Ulster University
◦for entry to Art and Design degree programmes, satisfactory completion of a full-time foundation programme in Art and Design, of not less than one academic year in duration.
No subject may be counted at more than one level except in the case of the A level or Applied A level combined with the Intermediate GNVQ. Qualifications not listed will be considered on merit.

For full-time study, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements for admission to a first degree course and hold a GCSE pass in English Language and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent).
Essential Skills Level 2 Mathematics will be accepted as equivalent to GCSE Maths.
Essential Skills Level 2 Communication will be accepted as equivalent to GCSE English.
English Language Requirements
English language requirements for international applicants
The minimum requirement for this course is Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at level III also meets this requirement for Tier 4 visa purposes.
Ulster recognises a number of other English language tests and comparable IELTS equivalent scores.

About this course
The BSc Hons Advertising meets the needs of those wishing to pursue a career in advertising and/or marketing, and provides the basis for graduates wishing to take a postgraduate programme up to doctoral level.
The programme seeks to provide the key advertising, business and marketing knowledge and skills essential for a graduate, seeking a managerial career in advertising or marketing.
The development of relevant employability skills is at core of the BSc Hons Advertising and a variety of opportunities exist within the programme and its modules, to develop such skills. Coursework
Students will have opportunities to complete exciting, interesting and relevant coursework. Typically this will involve working with a client or a real client brief, to solve an advertising, business or marketing related problem. Some examples of coursework include: ◦ Poster Presentation - to investigate an advertising agency to show its people, its work and its specialisms
◦ Pitch - to pitch an advertising campaign in response to a client brief
◦ Brand Development - to work with a client to develop a brand along with its associated emotional and rational components.
◦ Marketing Communications - to develop a range of advertising and marketing copy in response to a client brief.
◦ Understanding Consumers - to write a diary that provides an introspective account of personal buying experiences and habits.
Optional Work Experience or Study Abroad Year
In year three, students have the option to complete a 48 week work placement which if successfully completed will lead to the award of the Diploma of Professional Practice [DPP] at graduation. Alternatively, students may opt for a student exchange either with other European universities via the ERASMUS scheme, or, with the USA via the Business Education Initiative.
