Garda Vetting
Students applying for courses involving working with children and or vulnerable adults, are required to undergo Garda Vetting procedures prior to commencing placements. If, as a result of the outcome of the Garda Vetting procedures, a student is deemed unsuitable to attend clinical or other professional placement he/she may be required to withdraw from the course. |

Registration fees apply. However it is important that students should budget to cover the cost of the various student services - similar to the requirements of Third Level Colleges. These costs include examination fees, insurance, registration charges, books and where required - uniforms and specialised equipment. Details of these charges are available on request from the college. There are no fees for tuition. No refund of course costs will be issued after 30th September.
In addition, students are liable for a €200 participation contribution, imposed on all PLC courses. The following categories of student are exempt from paying the contribution.
Full current medical card holders in their own right and their dependent children.
Those who are eligible under the student grant Scheme
Those in receipt of the Back to Education Allowance or VTOS allowances.
Please note evidence that you are in receipt of any of the above must be provided before an exemption can be implemented. Therefore, initially only those who produce a full medical card in their own right will be exempt. All others must pay the €200 contribution and it will be refunded when their eligibility is confirmed.

Back to Education Allowance
The Back to Education Allowance is a scheme which enables anyone in receipt of benefits eg Jobseekers Allowance or One Parent Family Payment to enrol on a Post Leaving Certificate or Adult Education course and continue to keep their benefit. For more information on the schemes you can contact your local Social Welfare Office.
Back to Education Initiative
The Back to Education Initiative provides part-time Further Education Programmes for young people and adults. The aim is to give people an opportunity to combine return to learning with family and other responsibilities. Priority is given to early school leavers, participants can retain their benefits and there are no course charges.

Students will spend at least two weeks in Solicitors' firms/Insurance companies or organisations with a Legal Department in order to gain practical first-hand experience. |
| Entry Requirements |
Leaving Certificate or equivalent. For mature applicants, practical experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications. All applicants whose first language is not English will be required to take an English test before being accepted for the course. |

Future Prospects
This course prepares students to work in Solicitors Offices, legal departments of commercial concerns and insurance companies. Students who have attained their full QQI Level 5 award may have an opportunity to progress to the Advanced Certificate in Administration (Level 6) at Marino College. In addition, students who are interested in further study can apply through the QQI link scheme to progress to Higher Education in a third level college. |
