UCD welcomes mature learners and is delighted to provide a variety of courses to get you started. UCD Access and Lifelong Learning is a leader in the field of lifelong learning and in supporting mature students in their preparation for university. We offer Access to Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Law and Access to Science, Engineering & Agriculture courses to equip mature students with the skills and confidence required to progress to a degree course in UCD. These Access Courses guarantee access to specific degree courses in UCD to those who meet the assessment requirements. Access courses are part-time and applications can be made directly to UCD in June/July/August.
This course is designed to prepare adults, who may not have the formal qualifications, for successful study at university, particularly in the areas of Science, Engineering, Agriculture and Health & Safety.
Access to Science, Engineering and Agriculture aims to:
•Support students in finding the third level course that best suits their aptitude and interest
•Give students the confidence and skills necessary to plan and organise study for their particular needs
•Provide students with analytical skills in order to fully understand the material presented in all subject modules
• Equip students with the skills and confidence to take on a degree course in Agricultural Science: Engineering/Architecture; Science ; Medicine certificate/degree or diploma course in Health and Safety at Work;

Students who achieve an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.08 on the Access Course, are eligible to apply on grounds of mature years, and who follow appropriate application procedures via the CAO will be guaranteed a place on the UCD:
•BSc (Bachelor of Science),
•B Agr Sc (Bachelor of Agricultural Science) degree
•BE (Bachelor of Engineering)
•Higher Diploma in Safety, Health and Welfare at Work
To obtain a guaranteed place on the BE (Bachelor of Engineering) degree course students must obtain an overall grade of at least A- in each of the mathematics modules.
A student who achieves a grade of A- or over in each of the mathematics modules may take Calculus and Linear Algebra for the Mathematical and Physical Sciences when they proceed to Stage 1 Science.
