Hide-Drumshanbo Vocational School has a long tradition of offering Post Leaving Certificate Courses to learners: The courses are full-time and last for one to two years. PLC courses offer a mixture of practical work, academic work and work experience. They are designed as a step towards skilled employment and, as such, they are closely linked to industry and its needs. The Post Leaving Certificate courses in DVS adopt an integrated approach, focusing on technical knowledge, core skills and work experience.
Some students use points acquired from PLC courses as an entry to college. Other learners have chosen to defer a college course while obtaining valuable vocational skills on our PLC courses. Research conducted by third level Institute of Technologies has shown that students who have previously completed a Post Leaving Certificate course prior to commencement of college have higher retention levels.

- Studies have shown students who go to college having completed a PLC course do better and are more likely to complete the course than those who haven’t studied on a PLC course.
- Students may repeat Leaving Cert subjects while on PLC course.
