In general, there are no closing dates for the majority of courses (those with closing dates will be highlighted in the Course Finder). However we advise you to apply as early as possible, particularly for those courses where there is a high demand for places. Early application is also important for international applicants to allow sufficient time to obtain a student entry visa.

Postgraduate Research
There is no standard closing date. You should however check both the University’s website and refer to the relevant School/Institute webpage for information on deadline dates for postgraduate funding applications, as these will also determine when your application for admission should be submitted.

Hide-A 2.1 Honours degree or above or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University where Theology and/or Divinity is the main subject area OR where it is one of the joint subjects in an Honours degree. In the case of the latter, the modules in Theology and/or Divinity must be of 2.1 level or above, OR a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University in a subject other than Theology/Divinity, and a Graduate Diploma in Theology with normally at least 5 out of the 6 modules with a mark of 60% or above.

International Qualifications
Non-EEA nationals must satisfy the UK Border Agency (UKBA) immigration requirements for English language for visa purposes. Evidence of an IELTS* score of 6.5, with not less than 5.5 in any component, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University is required. *Taken within the last 2 years.

On completion of studies each student on the MTh programme is expected to have:
• Developed a specialised understanding of a theological area chosen under the guidance of a supervisor
• Demonstrated evidence of wide and independent reading
• Developed research skills through engaging in an extended supervised dissertation

On completion of studies each student on the Graduate Diploma programme is expected to have:
• Demonstrated evidence of wide and independent reading in Theology
• Developed a knowledge and understanding of some of the theoretical and practical approaches in Theology
• Developed skills in critical analysis with particular reference to Theology
• A broad foundation in theological study

Graduate Diploma
The Graduate Diploma programme aims to provide a conversion course for students who are graduates in a discipline other than Theology which may enable them, if they perform sufficiently well, to proceed to a taught postgraduate degree programme in Theology. In addition, the Diploma is a free-standing qualification which will allow applicants the opportunity to study Theology out of interest or personal choice.

PG Diploma: assessment will normally be by 100 per cent coursework. The pass mark for each module is 50 per cent. Diploma students do not submit a dissertation.

Graduate Diploma: students will be required, in consultation with an Academic Adviser, to take six modules from the list available and with formal approval given by the Director of the Institute of Theology. Students who are awarded the Graduate Diploma in Theology with a pass mark of 60 per cent in at least five of the six modules are eligible for admission to the appropriate taught postgraduate programme in Theology.
