Hide-The Clinton Institute fosters interdisciplinary research on the United States by developing a broad programme of research seminars and events and by establishing a number of projects that will focus key research concerns of Institute faculty and associates. The continued growth of a vibrant research culture is a core element in UCD's research strategy and the Institute will seek to advance further this institutional commitment. The Clinton Institute is an active research centre, which is developing a research agenda commensurate to its aims in promoting American Studies nationally and internationally. We welcome enquiries from potential research partners.

The Research Seminar is a major illustration of the dynamic research culture supported by the Institute. It draws on advanced researchers in Ireland and beyond and is a key component of an enabling environment for research that also includes projects conducted by doctoral students and post-doctoral and visiting fellows.

Research Resources
UCD's Library is a vital resource for American Studies in Ireland. It is a depository for all US Congressional records and government publications and contains one of the most comprehensive holdings of US government publications in Europe, some of which go back to the 19th century. Over the years, the Library has also benefited greatly from numerous gifts of books and other American materials.

As a gesture of support for the Clinton Institute for American Studies on the UCD campus, the National Library of Ireland has agreed to act as a strategic partner with the university in the development and expansion of its American Studies holdings. The Institute will supplement these resources by purchasing other materials that will help to ensure that students attached to the research programme will have access to relevant research materials which would otherwise be difficult to access in Ireland.

The Institute currently supports three dedicated, collaborative projects to spearhead our research culture. These two-year projects are directed by Irish-based scholars who work with national and international scholars and professionals to create research networks devoted to study of the selected topics. The project leaders co-ordinate the work of their international group and organize workshops focused on their topics. Dissemination of the research will be through international conferences, workshops and publications.

In 2008 the Clinton Institute launches a new research project on Photography and International Conflict, directed by Prof Liam Kennedy. This project is funded by the IRCHSS following a successful application for a Thematic Project Grant.
