Course Fee In general, there are two levels of fees payable. EU students from EU countries including Ireland pay a subsidised level of fees for both taught courses and research programmes. Tuition fees for students from outside the EU are not subsidised and are thus somewhat higher than for EU students.

Entry Requirements Primary degree (or equivalent) and a Masters degree in a relevant discipline and a research proposal of approximately 5,000 words are required. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact members of staff to discuss their projected area of research.
Comment Adult and Community Education at Maynooth is at the forefront of development in adult educational practices, research, and innovation in Ireland. The Department has influenced policy development on equality of access to education, professionalisation of the sector, lifelong learning, and recognition of prior learning. The Department is recognised as a leader in outreach programmes for third level education.
Course Content The structured research programme in Adult & Community Education offers research opportunities in radical perspectives on adult learning theory, theoretical and practical studies of community education, women’s education, adult basic education, human development programmes, adult guidance and counselling, interventions with marginalised adults and their communities as well as topics in higher education.
Research Areas Research Interests We offer a wide variety of research opportunities tailored to the needs of individuals, and work collaboratively with groups from both the public and private sector, including the National Adult Literacy Agency, AONTAS, community , HSE, arts and drama organisations and with university partners.
