The motor industry is a significant employer with a diverse range of opportunities in service, sales, parts, emergency/recoveries body repair, fast fit, alarms, glass fitting, etc. Recent years have seen a steady growth in the industry, with record car sales and all the associated work which this brings. The recent introduction of compulsory testing has opened a new sphere of employment within the industry. The motor industry is constantly developing and changing with new technology and products which makes it an exciting place to work and learn.
About Us
Hello and welcome to the Motor Technology course Website of Kylemore College. The College provides a 1 year full-time QQI course in Motor Technology. We offer excellent resources with a fully-equipped garage. We provide students with a creative, friendly and supportive environment in which each one can develop academically, personally and socially. Since it's establishment, hundreds of graduates have gone on to pursue successful careers in the industry.
If you would like to know more about our Motor Technology PLC Course, please come and visit us. We have open days and open evenings throughout the year. All potentially suitable candidates are invited and encouraged to attend an open day so that you can see the facilities. Please contact the college to find the date for the next open day.

Post Leaving Cert (PLC) courses offered at Kylemore College are funded by the Department of Education & Science and assisted by the European Social Fund (ESF).
All PLC courses at Kylemore College are included on the Department of Education and Science's Internationalisation register of programmes approved by the Minister for Education and Science for the purpose of access to employment by students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.
Fees - EU Nationals
•There is no tuition fees charged for PLC courses.
•There is a one-off college Registration Fee which is payable by all students. All students who have been offered a place will be advised of registration dates and fees.
Fees - Non EU Nationals
• Tuition - Non EU Nationals are charged the Economic Fee, which is between €3600 - €4,000 per annum.
•Participants who pay the economic fee should be self-supporting, and have approval to remain in the State.
•NOTE: As there may be changes to the conditions for Non-EU Nationals who seek entry to PLC courses, please contact the Department of Education and Science and Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform for the most up-to-date information.
Refunds
Fees are refundable where a class is not formed. In these circumstances fees will be returned by post. There may be a delay due to administrative procedures. The College does not refund fees where a student voluntarily withdraws from the course.

Hide-Apply now if you are a final year secondary student, an aspiring Apprentice Motor Vehicle Mechanic or just interested in the evolving world of Motor Technology. Applicants should have achieved the Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, or equivalent. Mature applicants with suitable industry experience are also welcome to apply. Admission to the course is limited and subject to interview. Suitability interviews are usually held every May each year. An application form and guide to the process can be found on the application process page.

Assessment and Certification
Modules are assessed by workshop, practical projects, assignments and examinations. Your final certificate classification (Distinction, Merit, Pass) will be based on your work throughout the year of the course. Successful candidates will receive a FETAC Level 5 Award in Motor Technology. |

The course will provide you with a qualification that has many applications within the motor technology industry. Students may also further their education by attending third-level universities. This course prepares students for direct entry to: Apprentice Motor Vehicle Mechanic, Service Reception, Parts Personnel, Apprentice Motor Vehicle Electrician, Motor Vehicle Sales and Third Level Education.
Third Level Access
QQI ensures that procedures for access, transfer and progression are implemented locally and nationally, thus facilitating learners at all stages of life to continue education and training through the HELS. The Higher Education Links Scheme links specific QQI (Level 5) Awards to reserved places on higher education courses. Students who have attained the full Motor Technology QQI award are eligible to apply for a course at a range of higher education institutions. DIT recognises 5M2145 for entry into some of its programmes.
