Hide-Immerse yourself in this fascinating and emerging field, and explore the culture and creative industries.
‘Public Cultures’ is the collection of ideas that make- up public policies, communication and behaviour in society. It combines literary, philosophical, media and cultural studies. It examines how society works through a coherent and unique examination of cultural and critical theories, and looks at the relationships between individuals and the state.
What will I do?
Unique in Ireland, this course offers a grounding in cultural policy, cultural theory and cultural critique. Its interdisciplinary approach to cultural theory is deeply engaged with media, technology, politics and political economics. It considers cultural policy; examines institutions and how they are formed; critiques social communication and behaviour; and looks at rights, responsibilities and bias in the public realm. It teaches the skills needed to contextualize, analyse, and critique public policy, institutional systems and public discourse.
