Hide-The purpose of this programme is to prepare the student for all aspects of the role of the Nurse. The student is introduced to a wide variety of modules with a work placement element to the programme, which gives the student the opportunity and the experience of working in a setting of their choice under supervision .The programme also prepares the students for interviews, progression to third level colleges, UCAS and CAO preparation and the college has established a link with some of the English colleges and Institutions in the Ireland and the U.K.

This module looks at the various Models of Care, the current legislation in the Care Setting and issues as they arise for the individual needing care, the skills involved in becoming a Care Worker, the role of the Care Worker, Care Planning, and preparing activities for those that live in a care setting. This module is assessed by developing a Case Study, Project on an Issue of Concern in the Setting, and a Skills Demonstration.
Care of the Older Person 5N2706
This module deals with all areas of working with the Older Client from the caring aspects to the legislation that should be in place when working with the Older Client. The module is assessed by a case study of a client that has a special need and a skills demonstration with production of a booklet of a life skill carried out with a client.
Palliative Care 5N3769
This module looks at the quality of life of patients and their families when facing problems associated with life threatening illness. It also investigates the areas of prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and assessment of the treatments of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual. The module is assessed by a Case Study and a Learner Record.
Nursing Theory and Practice 5N4325
This module deals with all aspects of nursing which include the History of Nursing, Developing Skills in Nursing and the Professional Development of Nursing. The module also explores areas such as Disease, Immunisation, Infection Control, the Five Domains of Nursing and the Development of skills in observing the Vital Signs. This Module is assessed by an Examination and five skills demonstrations.
Human Growth and Development 5N1297
The module aims to introduce the learner to human growth and development from infancy to old age in order to relate to people appropriate to their needs. This equips the learner to work effectively in a variety of community/social care settings, where frequent demand is made on the individual to relate to people at various levels of personal development. Final assessment incorporates an examination and 2 projects.
Anatomy & Physiology 5N0749
This module explores all areas of the body and its functions. It is assessed by an Examination and two projects.
Social Studies 5N1370
This module introduces learners to the area of sociology and social studies which will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence required for employment in a Social Care Setting. Learners will develop an understanding and awareness of social issues in their own lives and society in general. They will also develop basic research skills and learn to recognise the complexity of social issues.
Work Experience 5N1396
The purpose of this module is to provide learners with the personal knowledge, skills and capacity to participate in a suitable work placement under supervision for a limited time. Work experience includes observation of good timekeeping, working independently while under general direction, meeting deadlines, personal presentation, communication, adherence to health, safety and other relevant regulations.

The purpose of this module is to facilitate learners to acquire communications skills relevant to vocational, personal and interpersonal development and to explore the use of modern information and communications technology (ICT), in personal and vocational life.
