This course is an introduction to Nursing and will benefit anyone wishing to enter the nursing profession using a QQI qualification. It is recognised nationally by Universities and Institutes of Technologies in Ireland and in the UK. It provides a learning environment, in which learners are encouraged, assisted and ultimately required to take responsibility for their own learning. Essential skills in nursing care are taught by qualified nurses in our fully equipped ward. Practical experience in the workplace is also an essential part of this course. Students must complete work experience in a nursing / care environment.
Garda vetting must be successfully completed for all courses in the Department of Health Services, Childcare & Youth Work.

Part of the fee includes a Government Levy of €200 and a QQI/FETAC Examination Fee, currently €50 for Level 5 programmes and €80 for Level 6 programmes.
The following categories are exempt from both of these fees:
Current Medical Card Holders (up-to-date medical cards to be presented at interview)
VTOS dispersed students
Students awarded Back to Education Allowance from INTREO
Documentation must be provided to College Office to avail of any exemptions
Recipients of the Student Grant (www.susi.ie) are exempt from the €200 Government Levy ONLY. Clear, original, up-to-date evidence must be provided to CCFE to avail of any exemption.

Prior to engaging in practical Work Experience, students will complete both a Patient Handling and an Occupational First Aid Course.
Any of the following would satisfy entry requirements:
Leaving Certificate/LCVP or Leaving Certificate Applied
A FETAC Level 4 qualification
Mature students (age 23+) are also welcome to apply
