This course is for those who likes to help people and can manage the responsibility of care for sick person. It prepares students to work in a variety of different roles in the Health Care sector. As a course feature the work experience shows for the students what is the Healthcare Assistant job in reality, proves their skills and knowledge acquired during the course. |

Certification:
The certificate awarded to successful students is the QQI Certificate in Healthcare Support (Level 5) (5M4339). In addition all students are given the opportunity to obtain certificates in Occupational First Aid and Sign Language. |
| Alternative Entry |
Mature students are very welcome on all courses in O'Fiaich Institute of further Education and the number of mature students is rising steadily. Some mature students are eligible for VTOS scheme (Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme). |

This course is aimed at students who have completed the Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, Leaving Certificate Vocational and mature students. |

Graduates can seek an employment as health care assistants in hospitals, nursing homes, day care centres and in the community. Due to the changing structures in the health sector, there are many opportunities for employment for successful students. Another possibility is proceed to the Early Childhood Care and Education Level 6, imparted in the Ó Fiaich Institute or to pursue a range of courses in third level education through the Higher Education Links Scheme e.g. a degree in Nursing or Applied Social Studies.
