Hide-2017 Entry Requirements: H5 in two subjects and O6 in four other subjects in the Leaving Certificate from Irish, English, another language, Mathematics, Biology and one other subject recognised for entry purposes. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by October 15th in the year of proposed entry to the programme, and must hold a Leaving Certificate at the time of application or be applying on the basis of mature years.
Applicants may be required to attend interview.
Fitness to Practise:

Student Vetting

Full-time EU/EEA/Swiss State undergraduate students may be exempt from paying tuition fees. The State will pay the tuition fees for students who satisfy the Free Fees Criteria. In 2016/17 the Student Contribution Charge will be €3,000 and the Capitation Fee will be €165. |

Only when your SUSI application has been completed in full and submitted to the grant-awarding authority can your eligibility be determined. When your registration for an approved course at an approved college has been confirmed, SUSI will arrange to pay your student grant on a monthly basis directly into your Irish bank account.

Dental hygienists form an important complementary branch of the dental profession, performing preventive and periodontal treatments for adults and children.
Why Study
Working under the supervision of a dentist, the dental hygienist carries out procedures such as:
• application of desensitising agents
• application of fissure sealants
• dietary advice
• local infiltration and inferior block anaesthesia
• oral health education
• re-fit crowns with temporary cement and place temporary dressings when crowns or fillings become dislodged in the course of treatment
• scaling teeth
• taking and recording radiographs.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an ongoing learning process that occurs throughout the clinical career of dental hygienists. Graduates attend regional, national and international conferences as part of their CPD and may undertake additional training that falls within the Dental Council of Ireland’s Scope of Practice for Dental Hygienists.
