This course is aimed at honours degree graduates of science, engineering or related areas. Students learn how to manage the environmental, health and safety (EHS) affairs of a wide variety of organisations. The main focus is on the practical application of theory, using a combination of individual effort and team work, practical assignments, site visits, report writing, presentations and auditing. There is also a dissertation which focuses on the implementation of one or more of the key areas of EHS management. Visits to industrial and municipal workplaces form a significant part of the course.

Hide-Course Structure:
In the first semester, students study environmental systems and technologies, air and noise pollution, water, wastewater and ecology, waste and energy, occupational safety and health, hazard identification, risk management, accident prevention and investigation, construction, machine and electrical safety, handling, storage and transport of chemicals and hazardous materials. Students also study occupational hygiene.
In the second semester, the following modules are covered: safety and health legislation, safety, health and quality management systems, environmental policy, planning and environmental impact assessment, environmental management systems and auditing. Students also complete a dissertation.
