Duration Stage 1 modules may be offered annually (core modules every second year) while Stage 2 will be offered annually.
Entry Requirements Level 8 Undergraduate Degree (H2.2) in the discipline or a related discipline. For students without the relevant academic qualification but with relevant previous experience, recognition for prior learning can be awarded.
Applicants will have an academic qualification in Theology or Religious Education.

Academic qualifications and/ or relevant professional experience in Pastoral Care, Social Studies, Psychology, Counselling or Pastoral Ministry would also be an advantage.
Course Content Programme Description:
This programme aims to provide an appropriate level of formation in spirituality and the human sciences, a sound grasp of adolescent and adult psychology, skills in group and organisational facilitation, counselling and pastoral skills, as well as a working familiarity with the educational environment of the post-primary school sector in Ireland as well as the third level sector.

Careers or Further Progression Career opportunities:
It is estimated that a significant cohort of chaplains will have to be educated for the secondary level education sector over the coming years. In addition, graduates of this programme can work as chaplains or members of pastoral care teams at Universities and Institutes of Technology and other education institutions.
