This programme is intended for registered medical and dental practitioners and those with professional backgrounds in health or health care provision, who hold an appropriate primary degree, with an upper second class honours, or international equivalent required.
•Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 7.0 (no band less than 6.5 in each element), or equivalent.

The full time course for the Master of Public Health extends over an academic year of study with lectures taking place Wednesday to Friday. Alternatively, a part time course is offered extending over two academic years, which involves completion of Blocks 1 and 3 in the first academic year, and Blocks 2 and 4 in the second academic year (lectures Wednesday to Friday)
Important - The part-time programme involves attendance at Blocks 1 and 3 during the first year, and Blocks 2 and 4 during the second year along with the full-time students. This therefore entails attendance full time on Wednesday - Friday during the blocks being completed. The dissertation will be completed during the second year of study.

The MPH International programme in UCD has been developed to offer multi-disciplinary training and development in Public Health, emphasising the knowledge and tools to analyse the factors that influence public health in an international environment. Increasingly public health problems are global requiring global solutions and with the freer movement of people and human & animal foodstuffs infectious diseases, and contaminated product, can rapidly become widely disseminated.
The health of a country’s citizens is often dependent on the controls and public health infrastructure in operation. International surveillance and early warning systems were never more important but the thresholds for accessing the health service and the efficacy of public health systems varies greatly.
Mortality and morbidity are not evenly distributed across societies and poorer people suffer poorer health. Infectious diseases, chronic diseases, obesity and protein energy malnutrition all have an international dimension. The disparity in the economic situation between countries, and between subpopulations within countries, grows ever wider as does the associated health status.
Many graduates from the MPH work in the international arena and this stream of the MPH, where the two international health modules are compulsory and the thesis will encompass an international health topic, should position them better for employment in this sphere.
