Students engage in research activity, under the direction of a Principal Supervisor. Students are given support in areas such as research methods, library use, and computer skills.
Students may also take taught modules, as recommended by their Principal Supervisor. These modules will typically develop the advanced knowledge, skills and competencies required for successful research and / or support the acquisition of generic or transferable skills.
The course duration is: not less than one year and not more than two years full-time; OR not less than two years and not more than four years part-time.

Assessment Procedures
The degree of M.Litt will be awarded where the candidate has successfully completed a programme of study of a value between 90-180 credits.
Within this range, students complete a minimum of 90 credits of research activity at master’s level (UCD level 4); and not more than 90 credits of taught modules.
Note: Students may exit with an M.Litt OR may transfer to stage two of a doctoral programme on successful completion of a transfer assessment.
