The Postgraduate Applications Centre (PAC) is based in Galway. It is an application centre that provides the facility for applicants to apply online for Postgraduate taught programmes at DCU. There are currently 89 DCU courses available through PAC.

Applicants apply for DCU postgraduate courses online at www.pac.ie. Applicants can apply for up to three programmes when making an application to DCU on PAC. Programmes should be selected in order of preference as sequential processing and assessment of programmes mean that if an applicant is offered their first choice no further assessment of the other programmes is made. The cost of applying is €50 and is a non-refundable fee payable to PAC.

On receipt of the application fee PAC scans all documentation onto the system for review at DCU. Applicants are notified by email as each step of the review route is progressed. It is therefore, imperative that applicants have a secure email account and review it regularly for updates, as no other means of communication between DCU and prospective applicants will be used.

To assist in each stage of the application process web links are provided both on the PAC system and here on our webpage. These links, listed opposite, can be reviewed prior to making an application or dipped into during the process. They provide relevant information from the initial stage of making an application to accepting an offer online. Applicants also have the facility to pay the initial deposit online on accepting and subsequent fees.

The minimum entry requirements for the programme are:
A second class honours grade 1 degree in Business, Computing or a related discipline, or an equivalent international qualification

OR

A primary degree in some other discipline, combined with significant professional experience in e-commerce or the ICT sector.

If you have achieved a second class Honours grade 2 Honours degree in one of the above mentioned subjects, you may still obtain a place. This will depend on the availability of places. You may be invited for interview.

If, as is normally the case, demand from qualified applicants exceeds available places, applicants will be ranked for admission purposes on the basis of prior academic performance, professional experience and, where relevant, performance at interview. Candidates who have not received their degree results by the application closing date may receive conditional offers.

International Applications
International candidates are expected to have educational qualifications of a standard equivalent to those outlined above. In addition, where such candidates are non-native speakers of the English language they must satisfy the university of their competency in the English language.

Jointly delivered by DCU Business School and the School of Computing, you will be equipped with a powerful combination of technological and business skills by working on applied projects in electronic commerce.

Programme
Students will take a number of key management based modules, with a specific focus on electronic commerce. Digital Business equips students with a strong conceptual foundation by studying in detail the concepts underpinning the electronic marketplace and the associated business, technological and societal implications. The challenges organisations face when introducing information technology and the choices management make when leading such large-scale IT-enabled change initiatives are explored in the Organisation and Management in the Networked Era module. Students will analyse and select the most appropriate business modelling tool or technique for problem situations in Business Process Innovation. Students will have the unique opportunity to learn and practice the skills and expertise involved in the successful commercialisation of new ICT technologies by developing a commercialisation plan for a product, process or service idea in E-Commerce and Entrepreneurship.

Students will also take a number of computing based modules. Information Access aims to familiarise students’ with aspects of information management which impact the way we create, organise, manage and use information in society today. eCommerce Infrastructure introduces students to the principles and techniques for the development of software applications supporting eCommerce sites and activities. Risk, Regulation & Ethics in e-Commerce gives students an understanding of the challenges that managers encounter in the digital realm and gives them an increased ability to make sound business judgements in managing the digital enterprise. The Object Orientated Programming module aims to give the students a foundation in Java Programming, while students are introduced the tools and techniques for constructing, optimising and maintaining websites as part of the Web Design & Implementation module, addressing web usability, design guidelines and user experience.

The unique and highly regarded Next Generation Management module provides students with the opportunity to develop the competencies required for successful management and leadership careers. It focuses on four key themes: personal and career development; research skills; global and societal awareness; and digital media and communication. Particular emphasis is placed on reflective and critical thinking, collaborating with people, creating and sharing knowledge and dealing with complexity.

Finally, the Practicum, which is completed over the summer months, affords students opportunity to exercise their creative, questioning, analytic, and writing skills in a focused and practical manner. It is intended to expose the student to an analysis of a real-world problem in the ecommerce area, putting into practice the theoretical materials covered in earlier modules.
