Hide-This course is designed to give students an experience within the engineering technologies and to prepare students for entry into third level education or the world of engineering industry. During the course students have access to technical workshops, fitted with a variety of relevant equipment They have the opportunity to learn exact skills in work place which satisfies the highest safety standards. Students gain a theoretical knowledge and practical skills in measuring and inspection techniques, the properties of engineering materials and machining methods, the use of a range of tools and equipment. As a course feature work experience helps learners to make links which often result in employment.

Mature students are very welcome on all courses in O'Fiaich Institute of further Education and the number of mature students is rising steadily. Some mature students are eligible for VTOS scheme (Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme). |

This course is aimed at students who have completed the Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, Leaving Certificate Vocational and mature students with an interest in engineering with suitable candidates being selected by interview. |

There is continuous assessment throughout the year and examinations are taken in the main subjects in May. |

Career Opportunities & Progression Routes
Students who participate in this course are eligible to apply for apprenticeships or go directly into the workforce. Those students who successfully complete the course can gain entry to third level education by an alternative route known as the Higher Education Links Scheme, whereby students can gain entry to specific courses in the Institute of Technology, using their QQI examination results instead of their Leaving Certificate results. |
