Aims
This accredited course in Dental Nursing is designed to prepare students for a career in Dental Nursing and encourage participants to gain a recognised professional qualification. During the course you will be able to experience the role of the Dental Nurse in a variety of dental settings. |

Garda Vetting
Students applying for courses involving working with children and or vulnerable adults, are required to undergo Garda Vetting procedures prior to commencing placements. If, as a result of the outcome of the Garda Vetting procedures, a student is deemed unsuitable to attend clinical or other professional placement he/she may be required to withdraw from the course. |

Registration fees apply. However it is important that students should budget to cover the cost of the various student services - similar to the requirements of Third Level Colleges. These costs include examination fees, insurance, registration charges, books and where required - uniforms and specialised equipment. Details of these charges are available on request from the college. There are no fees for tuition. No refund of course costs will be issued after 30th September.
In addition, students are liable for a €200 participation contribution, imposed on all PLC courses. The following categories of student are exempt from paying the contribution.
Full current medical card holders in their own right and their dependent children.
Those who are eligible under the student grant Scheme
Those in receipt of the Back to Education Allowance or VTOS allowances.
Please note evidence that you are in receipt of any of the above must be provided before an exemption can be implemented. Therefore, initially only those who produce a full medical card in their own right will be exempt. All others must pay the €200 contribution and it will be refunded when their eligibility is confirmed.

Back to Education Allowance
The Back to Education Allowance is a scheme which enables anyone in receipt of benefits eg Jobseekers Allowance or One Parent Family Payment to enrol on a Post Leaving Certificate or Adult Education course and continue to keep their benefit. For more information on the schemes you can contact your local Social Welfare Office.
Back to Education Initiative
The Back to Education Initiative provides part-time Further Education Programmes for young people and adults. The aim is to give people an opportunity to combine return to learning with family and other responsibilities. Priority is given to early school leavers, participants can retain their benefits and there are no course charges.

Work Placement
Students will undertake continuous clinical placement two days per week working in a Dental Practice over the duration of the course. This arrangement ensures that students will acquire the necessary clinical experience in dealing with the demands of the surgery. It is the student's responsibility to secure this work placement.
All students will be Garda vetted and will require Hepatitis B vaccination for work placement. As the vaccination process takes approximately four months, students should bear this in mind when preparing for work placement starting in early October.

Occupational First Aid Certificate as recognised by the Health and Safety Authority.
Assessment of theory and practice is continuous throughout the course. However, final qualifications are dependent on success in the Diploma in Dental Nursing (NEBDN). This Course consists of lectures, tutorials, practical classes and demonstrations, simulations and problem based learning.
A Record of Experience from NEBDN (UK) must be completed and signed off by a registered Dentist from your work experience over the 2 year course for entry to the final NEBDN Examinations.
Your dentist must agree to undertake an online witness training programme with NEBDN. On Qualifying, students are eligible to apply for registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) UK and the Irish Dental Council (IDC)
