Hide-This is a one year Childcare course designed to equip candidates to work as members of a professional team in the area of Childcare. This course enables the learner to gain a QQI Level 5 award in Childcare. Students may gain entry to the Level 6 Advanced Childcare course in Inchicore College.
This course introduces students to a general working knowledge and understanding of children in early childhood. Students gain first-hand experience throughout the year by attending work placements one day per week, in a variety of settings.
A programme of continuous assessment will be in operation. Assessment involves module assignments, projects, case studies and examinations and work experience reports.

Garda clearance will operate for students on any course dealing with children or vulnerable adults.
Work Experience Placements
Work Experience Placements form a vital part of this course. Learners will have the opportunity to attend a work placement in an early years setting one day per week and also have three weeks block placements during the year.
EUROPEAN PROJECT (ERASMUS +)
Every year a number of students have the opportunity to travel to another European country for three weeks work experience. The students attend an early years setting in the host country and observe and participate in the day to day work of the setting learning about how they deliver professional child care and education.

Expand+Course fees range from €300 to €400 depending on the course. The fees cover costs of examination entry and certification fees as well as any course materials and personal equipment to students. The fees also cover a range of other services and acti...
Hide-Course fees range from €300 to €400 depending on the course. The fees cover costs of examination entry and certification fees as well as any course materials and personal equipment to students. The fees also cover a range of other services and activities provided for, or engaged in, by the students such as some trips, cultural and sporting events, accident insurance policy fee and student services fund fee. in addition to this, the Government levy of €200 will also apply for those applicants who do not hold a medical care.
Enrolment Deposit
Students who accept the offer of a place on a course must pay a non-refundable deposit of €50. The balance of the fee must be paid on commencement of each academic year.
External Examination Fees
Students who choose to enter for examinations other than those set by QQI and/or BTEC must pay the appropriate exam fees to the relevant examining authority.

FE Student Grants
The Department of Education and Science has introduced a maintenance grant scheme for Further Education students. Application forms are available online at www.susi.ie.
A member of staff is responsible for helping students with their grant enquiries. |

1st Round In March/April, 2nd in Mid-May, Late Applicants in Late August and early September. |
| Application Date |
Applications are welcome from 1st December of the year preceding the course start year.
Interviews are then held at regular intervals from the following March onwards. First round of interviews will take place during March/April. Second round interviews will take place in mid-May. Late applications will be interviewed when the Leaving Certificate Examinations are finished or in early September.

| Entry Requirements |
•Candidates are expected to be of Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent.
•Applications will be considered from those who have completed the LCA and the LCVP.
•Aptitude for, and interest and experience in childcare will be taken into account and selection is on the basis of an interview. The course is open to VTOS applicants and mature students.
Garda clearance will operate for students on any course dealing with children or vulnerable adults. |

Progression and Career Prospects
Many of our students now work at home and abroad in Pre-Schools, Nurseries, Montessori Schools and other related areas, such as Special Needs and Classroom Assistance. Students may gain entry to the Level 6 Advanced Certificate courses in Inchicore College, subject to success at Level 5. |
