Course Content Aim:
This course offers an introduction to Sociology and Social Care. It provides students with the basic skills and knowledge required for working in the Social Services e.g. Family/Community Groups, Children's Projects, Voluntary Organisation, Crθches, Pre-schools, Respite Centres, Residential Units. It also caters for those who wish to progress to a Certificate, Degree or Diploma in Social Care, Applied Social Care or Childcare.

• Garda Vetting is a requirement for the College and Work Placement.

• QQI Level 5 Major Award in Community Care (5M2786).

• Opportunity within the College to repeat subject at Leaving Certificate level.

Work Placement:
Two days per week (Thursday & Friday) will be spent on Work Placement. Placements include: Creches, Pre-Schools, Units for the Disabled, Nursing Homes, Social Services, Voluntary Organisations etc.
Mature Entry Places Yes - mature students welcome.
Entry Requirements Five Passes in the Leaving Certificate, preferably with a high level of competence in English and Home Economics. LCA applicants will be considered.

Relevant Work Experience or other Courses will be taken into account.

Mature Applicants Are Most Welcome.
