Hide-Leaving Certificate or equivalent award. Other candidates may gain entry through the recognition of prior learning in accordance with Institute Procedures. The course is aimed at anyone with an interest in Occupational Safety and Health that may or may not have any previous qualifications.
Exemptions in specific modules on the Higher Certificate are available to students who have completed the L6 Special Purpose Award in Occupational Safety and Health or who have a QQI(Fetac) award or equivalent in Health and Safety Representation Training.

Hide-This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in the area of Occupational Safety and Health or who may have a responsibility for Occupational Safety and Health in their workplace e.g. managers, supervisors, operators and safety committee members. Graduates of this course will be able to assist their employer in complying with Occupational Safety and Health regulatory requirements.
This course is offered part-time over two years through online lectures and resource materials which are available 24/7 to the learner. There will be one workshop per semester where the students will undertake teamwork, case studies, lectures and/or site visits. Assessments will be a blend of online and final examinations and students will be instructed in these online methods at the start of the course.
Typically lectures occur on line one evening per week for approximately one hour. There are opportunities to ask questions and interact similar to a real classroom experience or alternatively the live recordings can be accessed for repeat viewing at any time. Participants require a broadband service to access the material and participate on the course.
This course is accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the only Chartered body for health and safety practitioners and the world’s largest health and safety professional membership organisation.
