Semester 1
During the first semester of study the candidates will be required to attend IT Sligo for one day per week for the duration of the first semester. During these days students will be studying in practical laboratory settings.
Semester 2
During the second semester the candidates will be required to attend First Polymer Training Skillnets in Athlone for five days. This will occur in a block of three days early in semester 2 and the remaining block of two days towards the end of semester 2.

Applicants who hold a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) award at level 5 or a FETAC award at NFQ level 6 or equivalent in an engineering related discipline. Ideally candidates will possess some experience in a manufacturing, maintenance or engineering role, in one of the following industries; pharmaceutical, medical device or food & beverage. |

Hide-This programme has been developed in consultation with the IDA, Irish Medical Devices Association and companies involved in the medical devices sector and similar industries to address the significant shortfall of personnel with technical skills in engineering and manufacturing within the growing industry sector in Ireland.
This one year long part-time programme which is jointly delivered by First Polymer Training Skillnets and IT Sligo was designed for candidates to develop the key skills required of a Process Technician working in the manufacturing sector. The five modules in this course cover a wide range of skills that can be applied in different sectors across the manufacturing sector, skills in the areas of pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical termination/fault finding, design, metrology and good manufacturing practice.
Candidates also gain knowledge and skills on the effective use and operation of injection moulding machine and gain understanding of how machine settings affect polymer material quality through their training in First Polymer Training Skillnets.
