Hide-What is this course about?
With an increased emphasis on teaching computing in schools, there is increasing demand for teachers to introduce coding as part of the curriculum. This 10 credit special purpose level-8 award is designed to assist teachers in developing their knowledge of computer programming concepts. Specifically the objectives of the course are to:
Equip learners with the skills necessary to begin implementing coding within their respective professional contexts.
Give learners insights into the discipline of computer programming.
Raise an awareness of the technical requirement necessary to engage meaningfully with code in the classroom.
Do I need to know how to program before I do this course?
No, we are assuming little or no knowledge of programming. The emphasis will be on learning about concepts rather than syntax. If there is sufficient demand there will be a more advanced Special Purpose Award offered next year covering more in-depth programming principles which will take the concepts and convert them to programming syntax.
