This module is designed to form part of the professional and academic development of the registered nurse, working in the acute hospital, general practice, and community settings with clients who have diverse symptoms. Participants will be given the opportunity to enhance their nursing assessment techniques and decision making skills when caring for clients with a variety of red flag symptoms (emergencies and near emergencies) in the hospital (including triage in the Emergency Department) and primary care settings. The participant will develop advanced knowledge in the nursing assessment (signs and symptoms) of adult clients. The module will include some clinical laboratory experience where students will develop competency in relevant history-taking skills, physical examination techniques, and initial management of a selection of minor and major emergencies/near emergencies. It is also part of the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences/Professional Studies (see page 11).
