| Course Content |
The course aims to provide individuals involved in community and voluntary organisations with an introduction to social enterprise.It will provide students with an understanding of what constitutes a social enterprise, the historical context and ideological influences of social enterprise, the potential for social enterprise in Ireland and the 'nuts and bolts of establishing and successfully operating a social enterprise. |

Module 2 - Social enterprise- The potential for social enterprise is particularly suited to certain sectors as evidenced by its development across Europe and the US. The module will explore these, as well as challenges and requirements for social enterprises in the sectors.
Module 3 - Sustaining, supporting and ensuring social enterprises achieve their objectives. This module will consider the specific support and sustainability needs of social enterprises to ensure that they achieve their objectives.
Module 4 - The ‘nuts and bolts’ of establishing a social enterprise. The objective of this module is to consider the relevance of various management and financial tools in establishing a social enterprise

| Careers or Further Progression |
The certificate would enhance students employment prospects in securing employment in social enterprises in a number of capacities including management and sales. It would also be relevant to staff of community and voluntary organisations whose organisations are intending to develop stand alone social enterprises or develop social enterprise strategy for their organisation. It would also provide a gateway into a more advanced educational programmes in the social economy. |
