• Develop academic writing skills and referencing and how to assess evidencedbased information.
• Critically evaluate the principles underlying communication and its impact on planning and providing care for clients within the Gerontology environment.
• Evaluate in a critical manner the specialist knowledge and skills required to deliver optimal care in a Gerontological environment.
• Demonstrate an appropriate level of competence in relation to the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care in Gerontological nursing practice.
• Demonstrate critical thinking ability which enhances clinical diagnosis, treatment implementation and evaluation through discursive knowledge, reflective of evidence-based practice.
• Critical appraise the clinical, legal and ethical issues pertaining to caring for the
Gerontological patient.
• Develop, implement and evaluate policies and criteria for appropriate nursing interventions across a wide range of Gerontological services.
• Ensure that professional accountability is maintained in accordance with clinical guidelines to ensure the safe and effective delivery of healthcare.
