Courses leading to NFQ awards

There is information on many thousands of courses and programmes in QualifaX. These cover different types of learning, ranging from "leisure" courses to formal education programmes lasting several years. Some of these lead to qualifications or awards. Some do not have any qualification or award available. You need to ensure that you have enough information to make the choices that are right for you.

If your course (or programme) leads to a qualification or award, you should think carefully about how that is recognised. Some qualifications are recognised within particular sectors - for example, there are well known qualifications relating to IT. Many qualifications are recognised through the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). These include Junior and Leaving Certificates, awards from FETAC and HETAC, as well as Dublin Institute of Technology and the universities. Over time, it is expected that the vast majority of qualifications will be recognised in this way.

Qualifications recognised through the NFQ are quality assured. This means that you can have confidence  that your course, and the institution at which you are studying, are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Quality assurance is intended to ensure that all learners have a high quality learning experience regardless of where you are studying. Qualifications recognised through the NFQ are also widely recognised in Ireland and internationally.

Within QualifaX, you can tell if a course (programme) leads to a qualification (award) recognised through the NFQ if the information provided includes NFQ level.

More information on the NFQ is available from the NFQ 'tab' near the top of your screen.
