Entry Requirements

Learners must have successfully completed the Leaving Certificate/LCAP/LCVP Examination or QQI Level 4. This course is suitable for those people considering a career in a variety of areas within the Animal Health Care sector, or to progress to third level, particularly in the field of veterinary nursing. Learners will study core areas of Animal Health Care including subjects such as Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Animal Welfare and Veterinary Assisting Skills. Learners will also be in a position to pursue further education upon completion of the programme.
Courses offered are subject to resources and demand; modules advertised may be subject to change.

Special consideration will be given to mature students (Over 23) or others who may not have obtained a Leaving Certificate. Entry procedure is by application and possible interview.

Applicants whose first language is not English, require a minimum English language and literacy competency of B2 in reading, writing, listening and speaking on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) and may be required to complete an English language test.

Careers / Further progression

Graduates of this course are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities.

Please note that the CETS Childcare Scheme run by the Department of Social Protection does now apply to learners on PLC courses.

PLC Maintenance Grant
All applications for grants must be made online to SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland). Applications for the upcoming academic year will open when the 2021 Grants Scheme is announced by the Department of Education and Skills.

Selected students will have the opportunity to apply for three-week work experience project in a European city where they can experience another culture; learn the basics of another language & enhance professional & personal knowledge and training. This programme includes the cost of travel and accommodation of participants.

Learners can all achieve a Europass Certificate Supplement with this award. Learners may also have the opportunity to study Maths (5N1833) as an extra module.
