Nursing - Acute Medicine Nursing

Lifelong Learning
TL_NACMD_U

Acute medicine as a speciality has developed rapidly over the last number of years both nationally and internationally. It is defined as part of general (internal) medicine concerned with the immediate and early specialist management of adult patients who present as urgencies or emergencies. Given the acuity of patients who present to Acute Medical Units it is recognised that there is a need to develop additional clinical expertise in acute medicine nurses.

This Level 8 Special Purpose Award in Acute Medicine Nursing is co-delivered by a consortium of Institutes of Technology/Technology Universities and aims to enable acute medicine nurses to develop their knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of acutely ill adults.

What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.

Progression Opportunities
On successful completion of the programme you will have gained 10 credits at NFQ level 8 and will have the requisite knowledge and clinical skills to undertake further postgraduate studies in acute medicine nursing.
