Course Description:
This delightful course covers basic drawing and painting techniques using acrylic paints. Students will also learn the importance of observation and composition in a painting. (Students will be required to buy materials costing €20) Introduction is the perfect course for anybody looking for an introduction to, or a re-introduction to the principles of painting.
Course Content:
The course focuses on acrylic paint but is suitable for those looking to develop into oils. The eight week duration will include taught classes in anatomy, colour theory and mixing, prepping for painting, composition, building an image and texture and mark making. Three weeks will be given to working on a personal project with the aid of personalised feedback and support.
This eight week course is taught by artist and educator Ailbhe O’Connor. Ailbhe holds an undergraduate in Visual Art with a specialisation in painting, and a postgraduate in Cultural Events Management. Ailbhe has over a decades experience working across visual arts, events and education and has worked under and alongside some of the visual artworlds leading names. Ailbhe has an in-depth knowledge of Ireland's art policy structure as well as the private gallery sector, having worked for one of Ireland's most recognised galleries. Ailbhe founded an arts space in Dublin city centre as well as co-founding a successful arts-based business. Ailbhe has studied pedagogy and has been working as an educator in painting and life drawing since 2015.
The schedule for the eight weeks for painting for beginners:
Class 1: Basic Anatomy for portraiture
Class 2: Colour theory and mixing
Class 3: Composition & Still life.
Class 4: Colour blocking. Building an image.
Class 5: Texture and mark making.
Class 6: Personal project - with personalised guidance
