Entry Requirements
The entry requirement is a 2:1 or 2.2 degree (NQAI Level 7) in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics or Applied Mathematical Science at general degree level, or an equivalent, to be determined by the College of Science and Engineering.
Careers / Further progression
Skills acquired through the study of Applied Mathematics—the ability to develop mathematical models and to apply them in a practical setting—will prove to be extremely useful and will be highly valued by an employer. Graduates in Applied Mathematics have found employment in Met Éireann, the Central Statistics Office, telecommunications, the computer industry, financial and actuarial institutions, industrial research and development, teaching and research institutes, or have moved on to further postgraduate studies.

This Higher Diploma in Applied Mathematics programme is aimed at you if you have a background in Applied Mathematics or Mathematics, equivalent to a Level 7 degree, and you wish to improve your knowledge of these areas.
The programme seeks to further develop your ability in applying mathematical tools to address real-world problems. The problems investigated arise in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mechanics, Social Sciences and many others fields.
Course Outline
You will get the opportunity to develop your skills in different areas of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Numerical Analysis and Mathematical Modelling by taking advanced level courses. Each semester, you will study five courses chosen from a catalogue of appropriate courses. You will also undertake a supervised project, working in collaboration with a member of staff, where you will be trained in various research techniques and gain an insight into some current areas of Applied Mathematics research. At the end of this programme, you will have an equivalent level of knowledge and experience as a student who has completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Applied Mathematics.
