SUSI Grant
The Department of Education and Skills provides a means-tested maintenance grant for learners attending full-time Further Education courses. Information regarding eligibility and application details is available at www.StudentFinance.ie

Maintenance Grant Scheme for Post Leaving Certificate Courses
All grant applications must be made online to a single awarding authority SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland), through http://www.susi.ie

Students who have completed a QQI Level 5 course and are now commencing a QQI Level 6 course are deemed to be commencing a new course and must also apply to the SUSI online system.

Any student coming direct from Leaving Certificate to a PLC course will not qualify for the Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) and should apply for the maintenance grant.

This scheme is for unemployed people, lone parents and people with disabilities who are getting certain payments from the Department of Social Protection. For current information on the scheme qualifying conditions, please contact your local Social Welfare Office.

VTOS
If you are over 21 years of age, unemployed and have been getting certain social welfare payments for at least 6 months you can apply for the Vocational Training and Opportunities Scheme (VTOS).

The VTOS scheme provides a range of courses to meet the education and training needs of unemployed people. It gives participants opportunities to improve their general level of education, gain certification, develop their skills and prepare for employment, self-employment and further education and training.

How to Apply & Application Deadline
Applications for all our courses will be available on the website and in the college from January 2023 for all courses commencing in September 2023.

Step 1:
Complete the Application Form
The application form can be completed online at www.kinsalecollege.ie or you can print a paper version from the website. When you apply online you will receive a personal account and ID, this will enable you to view all college correspondence in relation to your application. (Applicants can complete the application on-line in the college if required) If you print the application form, please complete all sections and return to the College at

Step 2:
Attend for Interview.
Applicants will be invited for interview at the college. Interviews are held a number of times per year from Springtime through to course commencement.
The interview simply acts to match the applicant against the course in terms of suitability, commitment and expectation.

Step 3:
Accept Place on Course
Successful applicants will be notified of the offer of a place on a college course by post and by e-mail. Applicants must secure this place by paying the relevant Course Fee before a set date. Failure to do so may result in the place being offered to another applicant.

Step 4:
Registration and Induction
When students are offered a place on a course the notification will also contain information regarding dates for registration and induction. All students must attend the college on these designated dates.

Work Placement/Experience

Participants will be required to undertake 60 hours of work placement in a suitable area. The College will assist participants in identifying suitable placements.

Selected students have the opportunity to participate in the Pitstop and Frontrunner Leadership Programmes from Common Purpose.

SAGE Quick-pay and Tas Books are software packages used in this course. Students may need to satisfy a Maths requirement for entry to CR021 Business Administration in CIT: Leaving Cert Higher or Ordinary Level Maths or Maths@QQI Level 5.

FIT (Fast-Track in IT):
Kinsale College is working closely and providing students with direct contact and support with FIT. Their mission is to promote an inclusive Smart Economy by creating a fast-track to marketable technical skills for those at risk of unemployment.

They will help students prepare CV’s, do mock interviews and provide continuous support and guidance to all students doing Office Administration. This is at no extra cost to students.

Medical Package Socrates Software
Students are introduced to this practice management software package to learn to seamlessly manage a medical/dentist practice, record appointments and track documentation. It allows users to manage every aspect of the surgery both from the administrative side to the clinical side. Students will see first-hand the benefits of this system and it will provide students with the skills and knowledge of the Socrates software. This course is ideal for students interested in working in the area of Medical Administration.

Guest Speakers, workshops and company visits organized throughout the year.
