Duration

This is a 9-month programme delivered over two terms, consisting of three modules:

Principles and Practices of Financial Planning
Retirement Planning
Investment Management

This part-time programme is delivered via online lectures and exams.

Entry Requirements

Relevant 2.2 honours degree (level 8) in business, finance or in a numerate discipline (such as mathematics, physics or engineering)
OR
Equivalent relevant professional qualification:

e.g

Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA) with three years’ relevant work experience obtained in the life assurance or financial services industry.
AITI Chartered Tax Advisers (CTAs)
ACIIs/FCIIs
Actuaries
Member of a Professional accountancy bodies (ICAI, ACCA, CIMA, ICPAI)
Solicitors and barristers

LIA membership is required to register on this programme. Students must hold an active QFA designation and LIA membership to obtain the RPA and SIA designations.

Your application form will be reviewed to ensure you are eligible to complete this course. Payment will not be required until after you have been accepted to the course.

The registration fees are €1,100 per module and includes examination entry and access to learning supports.

The programme has been designed in conjunction with leading advisers and industry experts to ensure what you learn is practical, relevant and immediately transferable to your professional practice.

Successful students will also obtain two designations on route to the Certificate:
Retirement Planning Adviser (RPA)
Specialist Investment Adviser (SIA)

AWARD
Once you have completed the programme you will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Business in Financial Planning from ATU Sligo. This is a Level 9 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications and carries 30 ECTS credits.

Students who wish to progress their studies can advance to the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning (note, as the Diploma supersedes the Certificate, students will be required to redact their Certificate in order to obtain the Diploma).

On successful completion you will be able to:

Evaluate the principles and practices of financial planning in the specialist areas of retirement planning and investment management.
Formulate recommendations, evaluate opinions and critique problems that indicate a professional approach to the practice of financial planning in the specialist areas of Retirement planning and Investment Management.
Appraise complex and unpredictable problems in the field of financial planning.
Appraise and justify information, ideas, problems, and solutions, evaluating the optimal outcome from a range of options on financial planning matters.
