Entry Requirements
A student over 16 years seeking entry to this programme does not need a previous formal qualification. Should the student have previous qualifications, one of the following may be advantageous for admission to the programme:
Applicants must have attained a Pass grade in Leaving Cert Ordinary Level Maths or equivalent
Students who may not have formal academic requirements but who have the ability to successfully participate on the course will be considered. (RPL Recognition of Prior Learning)
LCA and Leaving Certificate Foundation Maths students must sit a short Maths test in Cathal Brugha FET College as part of the Application process
If English is not your first language you may be asked to complete an English assessment

The Food Industry offers many career prospects from Nutrition, to Food production, Food Quality, Education, Public health, Health Promotion, Food marketing and research. The Food sector is Ireland’s largest industry with a turnover in excess of 25 billion, sustaining over 230,000 jobs

All of the courses in Cathal Brugha FET are provided through English. Therefore, for those for whom English is not their first language, it is necessary that they demonstrate sufficient competency in English, both written and spoken, to facilitate attendance at classes.

MATURE STUDENTS
The number of mature students attending Further Education courses in Marino College is increasing each year and at present constitutes a significant proportion of our total numbers. Mature students are very welcome and Learner Supports will pay particular attention to their learning needs.
Mature students are welcome to apply. Formal academic qualifications not required.
For all courses, course fees are now free. All students must only pay a €50 non-refundable Registration/administration fee to secure your place; you can pay this fee through our website.

Eligible students can apply for a SUSI Grant to assist with course costs. Please contact SUSI.ie for further information.
Back to Education Allowance
Eligible students can avail of the Back to Education Allowance which enables students to retain their benefit payment while studying. Please contact your local INTREO office or welfare.ie for further information.

Applicants will be invited for interview at an enrolment session in the College. The purpose of this interview is to determine the applicant’s capacity to participate on the course for which he/she has applied. In some cases, applicants may be called for a second interview.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
You will have a mixture of classroom-based subjects, laboratory practicals and independent study. You will be expected to complete assignments throughout the year. Course work will consist of a combination of onsite & online learning.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
A full Award is granted on passing the relevant eight components. You will be assessed throughout and at the end of the year (Continuous Assessment). On successful completion of each component, you will be awarded a Pass, a Merit or a Distinction grade.
